Maintain, protect, and transform your territories
Local authorities are at the heart of the transitions we are experiencing: climate adaptation, decarbonized mobility, land-use efficiency, and preservation of quality of life.
A close partner for nearly 100 years, Colas supports territories in the sustainable management of their infrastructure: roads, public spaces, water networks, and urban developments. Our mission: ensure continuity of public services while shaping the cities of tomorrow—more resilient, efficient, and safe.
Maintaining and enhancing road assets
The municipal and intermunicipal road network represents local authorities’ most valuable asset. Its upkeep is essential for safety, daily mobility, and the longevity of investments.
Colas offers a comprehensive approach: pavement diagnostics, multi-year maintenance plans, in-place material recycling (Recycol), lowered-temperature asphalt, and ready-to-use solutions (Colquick).
Thanks to our network of local offices, we respond quickly—even on occupied sites—while minimizing disruption for users. Each intervention includes performance monitoring: recycling rates, CO₂ savings, and improved service levels.
With Colas, you are assured of a road network that is efficient, durable, and sustainably managed over time.
Adapting cities to climate change
With the increase of heatwaves and extreme rainfall, local authorities must rethink the role of water and vegetation in public spaces. Colas supports these transformations with practical solutions: soil de-impermeabilization, permeable pavements, on-site stormwater management, and greening initiatives.
By incorporating light-colored and permeable surfaces, our developments help reduce heat islands and manage runoff. Each project is tailor-made to balance climate resilience, safety, aesthetics, and optimized total cost.
From village squares to urban development zones (ZAC), Colas helps territories become more breathable and livable.
Managing water and preserving natural habitats
As a key element of any territory, water management is central to Colas’ expertise. We design, renovate, and maintain wet networks (wastewater, stormwater, potable water) as well as hydraulic structures: basins, swales, drainage trenches, and treatment plants.
Our ecological engineering and renaturation teams integrate biodiversity considerations from the very start: ecological corridors, living soils, and wetland continuity.
The goal: restore nature’s place while ensuring hydraulic safety and environmental quality in public developments.
Promoting low-carbon mobility
Daily mobility is evolving. People want to move more easily—on foot, by bike, or using public transport. Colas helps local authorities redesign public spaces: building bike lanes, developing greenways, integrating BRT lines or trams, and redeveloping intersections and shared zones.
Our teams design safe, continuous, and comfortable infrastructure, accessible to all users, including people with reduced mobility (PRM). By leveraging Aximum’s expertise, we integrate signage, markings, and intelligent transport systems (ITS) for optimized traffic management.
The result: safer, smoother, and more sustainable mobility for citizens.
Safety and accessibility: public space for all
Safety and accessibility are central to local policies. Through its subsidiary Aximum, Colas offers comprehensive solutions in signage, road markings, and intelligent lighting systems such as Flowell, a photoluminescent surface for pedestrian crossings.
We also support local authorities in making their spaces PRM-compliant, including guidance, contrast enhancement, and comfortable pathways.
Each intervention aims to create inclusive spaces where every user can move with confidence and safety.
Rapid response, everywhere: 24/7 on-call and emergency service
Pavement collapse, flooding, or snowfall? Thanks to its unique local network, Colas provides 24/7 on-call support.
Our teams can be mobilized within hours to secure sites, restore traffic, ensure winter road safety (salting, snow removal, cleaning), and respond to the impacts of climate change.
Ensuring continuity of public services—even in emergencies—is a core commitment to the territories we serve.
Building sustainable territories together
Beyond construction sites, Colas partners with local authorities in a spirit of long-term collaboration.
Each project is approached as a lasting cooperation, where performance criteria—carbon footprint, materials, safety, and quality of life—are measured, shared, and continuously improved.
Together, we shape territories that are more resilient, resource-efficient, and designed for the needs of future generations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Depending on the type of project (soil de-impermeabilization, active mobility, safety), we define impact indicators and document the benefits (water, CO₂, safety) to help secure the appropriate funding mechanisms. Our teams support you throughout your projects.
Infracare is a service offered by Colas agencies for managing road assets. Using artificial intelligence, we carry out diagnostics (inspection, surface/structural condition), prioritize critical sections, phase interventions (night windows, occupied sites), and account for budgetary and low-emission zone (ZFE) constraints. The outcome: quantified scenarios with KPIs (CO₂ savings, recycling rate, service level).
Through precise phasing, detour routes, night work, and resident communication. Colas has developed a free app, Hello Travaux, to streamline exchanges. Our network of local offices enables rapid mobilization of teams and equipment.
They are sorted and recycled through our Valormat platforms for construction and demolition waste. All flows are tracked and documented (QSE).
